Christmas Frequently Asked Questions
Facts, Traditions and Legends
according to the Nickersons

Why do we celebrate Christmas?

Because Emmanuel , God with us, the Christ child, the King of Kings did come and we are eternally thankful. It is a day set aside at our house to celebrate His Coming and tell others
what great things He has done for us. It is a time to share His Love by sharing gifts with loved ones. Giving gifts reminds each of us of the first Christmas gift – Jesus. It is a time to decorate
the house with ornaments that remind of us Jesus and how He changed history. It is a time to hang lights to remind us that Jesus is the Light of the world. It is a day to remember, a day to reflect and a day to rest. We love Christmas at our house. It is one of our most wonderful days
of the year.

How do I choose a present for loved ones?

One of the most fun parts of celebrating Christmas is giving gifts. Choosing the perfect present
can be a little challenging at times, but here are a few suggestions to make choosing a present easier. First, the most important thing is think. Sound simple? Seriously, think about who the recipient is, what they like, what they might need, what you know about them, and what would
be special to them. Second, shop. Search for that special present in unusual and unlikely
places when you are in town running errands, surfing the web or travelling across country.
Find something that will touch the heart of the person you are choosing a gift for that can
become a cherished treasure. Third, be creative. Is it possible to handcraft the gift or maybe
the wrapping paper? Write a poem to go on the name tag? Add a decorated cookie or candy
cane as a decoration on the package? Give a little of yourself and it will help make the present even more special. Last, give the gift of time to go with your present. Set aside some time
when you give your present to enjoy it together and enjoy each other. Christmas is about
making memories. One of the greatest presents you can give is your time. Happy Shopping
and Merry Christmas!

Should I send a Christmas card, letter or email?

Yes, please! One of our Christmas traditions is to display Christmas cards, letters and emails
from friends. What a reminder of all the relationships and special memories we have to be
thankful for. Each day we pray for friends and family who are hanging around the room.
J
So, yes, please take the time to send Christmas greetings. It is a wonderful way to make
contact with those who have touched your life. It is a great time to say thanks and spread
some Christmas cheer.

What is the origin of Christmas?

It is the biggest birthday party ever celebrated…the birthday of Jesus Christ.

Where was the first Christmas celebrated?

Bethlehem. Remembered as the nativity, this cowboy style celebration was held in a stable
among the livestock.

When was the first Christmas celebrated?

Somewhere around the change from B.C. to A.D.

Why do we decorate Christmas trees and put up lights?

Each ornament reminds us of how Jesus came to earth because of His Love and Plan for us.
The lights remind us that He, Jesus, is the Light of the world.

Why do people put a star or angel at the top of their Christmas tree?

The Christmas star and the angels proclaimed the Christ child’s birth. They told of Who was
to come and that He had come. The star or angel on top tells us this tree is decorated to tell
of Jesus’ birth and all He has done for us.

Does Santa sleep with his whiskers in or out?

Depends on how cold he is.

How does Santa know whether kids are naughty or nice?

Santa has lots of helpers. Parents are responsible for helping Santa with Christmas toys for
their children. So you better watch out and you better not pout because Dad and Mom’s
Annual Naughty and Nice Report is due soon.

When are you too old for Santa?

At our house, it is when you are too old for him to bring you presents.

How do Santa’s reindeer fly?

Heavy winds? Seriously, no one knows for sure. I am just thankful they do!

What happens if I quit believing in Santa?

He will quit bringing you presents.

Where is Santa’s workshop?

Though the exact coordinates have never been determined, it is believed to be somewhere
near the North Pole. Rumor has it there is a satellite office in Montana near the Continental
Divide. Watch our website for any new developments on the exact location. Maybe you can
visit the Montana workshop next Christmas.

What is Santa’s favorite cookie?

Grandma Great’s monster cookies. Want to try one? Order yours at www.mountn.org.
Visit Mount N Treasures to find them.
Hint: They are good all year long. However, if you do not have any monster cookies on hand,
do not despair, Santa is like the cookie monster and appreciates any and all cookies he
can get his hands on. Just please remember to use whole milk when you set out the cookies, because Santa is not on a diet nor lactose intolerant.

Who is Santa Claus?

It is a secret. Just be good and he will bring you presents Christmas morning.

Why does Santa Claus give presents?

St. Nicholas gave presents to bring Christmas joy and cheer to children in order to share
God’s Love with them. The tradition has continued.

What is a manger?

It is a feed box for livestock that typically contains hay. A manger was used as a cradle for
Jesus.

Who are Santa’s elves?

Really good craftsmen who love to make toys

What would Santa do if he ran into a bear when delivering in Montana?

Spray them with teddy bear spray. Ha Ha. Just kidding. All the bears are sleeping when Santa
is delivering in Montana.
