In June 2011, the city of Minot, North Dakota
and the surrounding areas were flooded.
Over 5,000 houses were destroyed leaving over 11,000 people effectually
homeless.
The city was not prepared for such a disaster. More than a quarter of their
population was homeless overnight. Many more suffered unrecoverable loss.
How could any city imagine or be prepared for such a loss?
The response of the community of Minot, North Dakota was remarkable.
They exhibited an understanding of community support that could be a model
for all relief efforts. They opened their homes as shelters to their neighbors. They
toiled long hours in the different phases of the relief efforts - removing
debris, mucking basements, making meals, cleaning houses, and more. They
rallied around the victims with open arms and willing hands. They prayed.
They worked. They loved. Minot, you have a special community. Stay. Rebuild.
Live. Love.
God's people travelled from all over the country to Minot to help, to
work, to encourage, to love. They joined hands with the local churches
and we watched in awe at the handiwork of God as hearts were renewed and
lives were transformed. While the workers were restoring the homes, God was
busy restoring the hearts and lives of the people of Minot. This disaster
that may very well have changed the face of Minot forever has also changed
the eternal destination of many of Minot's people forever. All praise be to
the Lord our God.
We fell in love with Minot, North Dakota while were were there. What
an amazing group of people.
Please join us in praying for their city. God has a special plan for the
seeds that have been planted through this disaster. Pray with us for a
mighty harvest.
How can you pray?
Pray God will give them the strength to rebuild their community, their city,
their lives.
Pray for the safety, endurance, fatigue and compassion of the relief
workers.
Pray for the funds to undertake the rebuilding of this city.
Pray for open hearts and willing voices to share God's Message and Love.
Pray...pray what satan has intended for evil, God will use for good.
How can you help?
Pray. Become a prayer warrior for this
community. Believe in the power of prayer and pray.
Go. There are many relief groups on the ground in Minot who
could use your help. The church families are weary in well doing and could
use fresh helpers and hands to continue the work God has placed before them.
Go and serve God in Minot.
Give. A project like this requires a great deal of funding. There are
a lot of needs that are not being covered by insurance and government
sponsored relief programs. Pray how God might use you to meet these needs.
Then follow His promptings on how you should give.
