       347561: Coming Home

Coming Home
By Max Lucado / Crossway Books & Bibles

Twin brothers Arion and Argo are scared. They have spent most of their lives shipwrecked on the lonely, gray island of Terrene with their ship's captain, and now he is leaving and they cannot imagine life on Terrene without him. He is going to Bluestone, a place where the birds always sing and the grass is ever green. He tells them he is going to prepare a place for them in Bluestone. Then he will come back for them, and they will all go to Bluestone together.

Though Bluestone sounds like a wonderful place, the boys find it difficult to wait for the captain on Terrene. The island is so gray that it is hard for them to imagine the vibrant colors of Bluestone. Soon they grow tired of watching and waiting for their captain, and it is hard for them to remember his voice. Can they really believe that he will come back for them? To do so they must have faith--they must see with their hearts, not their eyes. Will the captain really come back for Arion and Argo like he promised? And will the boys be ready for his return?

Once again, master storyteller Max Lucado tackles a difficult topic for children and creates an allegory

The Tale of Three Trees
By Angela Elwell Hunt / David C. Cook

Featuring the wonderful illustrations of Tim Jonke, this best-selling children's
book tells the Easter story from a new and unusual point of view. Three trees on
a mountain dream of what they wanted to become when they grew up. One wants
to be a treasure chest, another an ocean-going boat, and the third a signpost to God. Their wishes come true in a way they never expected. Children will be deeply touched as they understand, perhaps for the first time, the significance of Christ's
life and his atoning sacrifice on the cross. Recommended for ages 4 and up.

The Legend of the Three Trees Picture Book
By Dahl Taylor, illus. / Thomas Nelson

Once upon a mountaintop, three little trees dream of what they'd become when
they grow up. The olive tree wants to be a treasure chest, the oak tree hopes to
be a mighty ship, and the pine tree wants to stay on the mountain and point others to God. Each of their visions of fame and glory comes true--but in unexpected
ways! This beautifully illustrated storybook encourages children to trust God with their dreams, and shows them that God has a unique plan for their lives, too! Recommended for ages 4 to 9.

The Three Trees: A Traditional Folktale
By Elena Pasquali & Sophie Windham / Kregel Publications

Three forest trees dream of what they will one day become. One dreams of becoming a royal throne; one of being a ship that can withstand any storm; and
one longs to stay in the forest and grow as tall as tall can be. When they are
felled, it seems their dreams are over. But as each tree is crafted into a new
item-a manger, a fishing boat, and a rugged cross-it becomes clear that through
the role they play in one important life their hopes are more than fulfilled.
