How much do I long for God? Does my heart faint within me for His presence?
Do I want it with
every cell within my body? "...the sparrow hath found
an house..." Even
the smallest creature,
even the lowliest soul, is welcome in His House.
Welcome right in the middle of
the action.
Welcome on the sacred
instruments.
All find rest in His temple. None are too small. None are
too lowly. All are
welcome to come. SN
My son and I created a timeline based on how long each of the men
mentioned in this chapter lived and an interesting fact stood out in my
mind. Adam was still
alive when Lamech, Noah’s father, was alive.
This
means Lamech, most likely, learned about God and creation from Adam
himself which
he then passed down to Noah. I find this fascinating
because I think of how awesome it would have been to personally know
Adam and be able: To interview him regarding creation, the Garden of
Eden, and naming the animals. To discuss with him the fall and ask
him Why, Why, Why??? To relate these stories to my sons. It
is also comforting
to know that Noah was able to carry all of this
information with him on the ark and to preserve the history of early
man. I
find it important to know about history because the more we know,
the more we can learn from it. It is also important to
pass on the
wisdom gained from learning about God in history to our sons and
daughters. After all, history is His Story.

It is interesting how two very different people
can have the same
name. In Genesis 4:18-32 the Bible describes two of Cain’s descendents,
Enoch and Lamech,
both wicked like their forefather Cain:
But if you
continue to read to Genesis 5:17-26, you learn that there was another
Enoch and another Lamech. One, the Bible says walked with God. The other was
the Father of Noah, whose righteousness is the only reason we are here
today. That was just very interesting to me.

I love the contrast of these two
verses. The first speaks of stability, strength and safety. The second
of
illusions, false security and pride. What a contrast! Safety, destruction.
Confidence, pride. God, self. Thank you Lord
for being a strong tower for me.SN
