July Bible Insights

1 Chronicles 16:34-36            Give Thanks
“O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good; for His mercy endureth for ever. And say ye,
Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us together, and deliver us from the heathen,
that we may give thanks to Thy holy name, and glory in Thy praise. Blessed be the Lord God
of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the Lord.”

                                                                                                                                            1 Chronicles 16:34 -36

This is the end of the Psalm King David wrote when all Israel brought up the ark of the
covenant of the Lord unto the city of David. We should be thankful God’s mercy endureth
for ever. Sometimes it can be easy to take for granted that God will give us mercy. When
we do something wrong, if we say we are sorry (confess our sins) He will forgive us. Yes,
He will forgive us, but as Christians our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. We should
strive to become more holy like Christ. Sometimes we get so busy and concentrated on
all the distractions in life that we forget to notice all the little blessings God showers upon us.
Remember when praying to give thanks unto the Lord for all of His many blessings. The Bible
says that God inhabits the praise of His people. So give thanks unto the Lord. Praise ye the
Lord.

Ezra 1:1-2            He is Faithful

Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the Word of the LORD by the mouth of
Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he
made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, Thus
saith Cyrus king of Persia, The LORD God of heaven hath given me all the kingdoms of
the earth; and He hath charged me to build Him an house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

Ezra 1:1-2

How exciting it must have been to read that proclamation. After being in captivity for years
the Jewish people were finally free to go home. God had done what he said He would do,
He had not forgotten what He had promised. As we go through the trials and temptations
of life, it sometimes feels like we have been forgotten. Whenever that happens we must
remember how God was faithful with the Jews, and trust He will be faithful with us too.

Psalms 145:10-12            Make Him Known

“All Thy works shall praise Thee, O LORD; and Thy saints shall bless Thee. They shall speak
of the glory of Thy kingdom, and talk of Thy power; To make known to the sons of men His
mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of His kingdom.”
                                       Psalm 145:10-12

“Thy saints shall bless Thee.” Two of the meanings of the word bless are “thank” and
“make holy.” The saints are those who have trusted in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior,
and live a life that shows it. If you are a saint, do you thank God for what He has done in your
life? The saints will bless (thank) the Lord, so do you? Do you bless (make Him holy) through
your life? God is Holy, but how people see His Holiness is through His saints. Do you consider yourself a person who strives for holiness? Your life, your actions, your choice of literature and entertainment, your integrity in business transactions - do all of these present to others that you abstain from every appearance of evil? Do YOU make Him Holy? Do you speak of the glory of God’s kingdom and talk of His power? To me the glory of His kingdom could be what Christ did
for sinners on the Cross. Do you tell others “the old, old story”? The power of God is clearly seen in Creation, but what will really reach others is the power of what God has done in your own life. Do you tell people how God’s power walks you through fiery trials, floats you over floods of despair, and delivers you from overwhelming temptations? Do you tell them how He has given
you the victory? Do you make known to others “what God hath wrought”? Do you tell others
these things so that you can point them to the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost who brought you through? Or, do you talk about it to draw attention to yourself? Thank Him for what He has done, make Him Holy before all, and talk about the glory of His kingdom and His power so you can make Him known to the sons of men.
