Jude 22-23            Is It A Lie?
“And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save
with fear, pulling
them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”
Jude 22-23

There is a thought philosophy in modern Christianity that we should make our churches
more comfortable for the world. What we wear to church, the music we sing in our services,
even things as subtle as lighting and windows have changed over time so we can “reach the
world right where they are.” All of this is done in the name of love, “because God loves lost
souls.” Is this what God would have His children do? Would He want us to disguise the
awful reality of sin so sinners could feel comfortable at church? Would He want us to avoid discussing the sanctity of marriage so homosexuals and unmarried couples can learn about relationship without getting offended? Would He have us refrain from teaching how to parent
God‘s way so our children’s programs could ease the conscience of parents who are
neglecting their duties? No. “And of some have compassion, making a difference: And
others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the
flesh.”
Read the last part again, “hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.” As a
Christian, we must hate sin; but we must love the sinner. We must speak against sin, but
we must speak to the sinner. We must spread His love and share His Word with others out
of compassion and thankfulness for what Christ has done in our own lives, but we must heed
the warning, “And others save with fear . . . hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”
Can the concept that diluting truth will help us reach more be true or is it a lie? Has it ever
worked historically? Biblically? Morally? Will it ever?
